I urge the good people of this shire to review the documents at council re the Tweed Shire’s future water supply so you are not hood-winked by the pro Byrrill Creek dam lobby and develop at any cost mentality.
It certainly seems the Lismore MP has been led up the garden path so it would be most prudent for the MP to review the expert/professional facts at council. As I am aware the MP and councillors have no expertise in water/engineering/planning.
Among the concerns as to why the Byrrill Creek dam was not considered an option in the final report was significant environmental issues. The list of matters protected under the controlling provisions of the EPBC Act is considerably longer than both the Tillegra and Traveston dams.
Other concerns come from the Geology Reports and include, “the site has some severe geological problems, the main one being the considerable depth of weathering on each abutment. High leakage conditions have been encounted…..”
The gravity of concern that representatives intend to ignore real science and lead this shire into a legal minefield and squander multi-millions of ratepayers’ dollars cannot be overstated.
