New leadership

After many years of outstanding service to the country, Bob Brown has stepped down as leader of the Australian Greens and Senator Christine Milne will now lead the Greens Party. There will be those who will use Bob’s retirement to try to destroy the Greens. They will claim that the Greens are nothing without Bob.
The Greens represent a broad and deep cross-section of Australian society, brought together by shared values and commitment, not by a single person. The party has grown into Australia’s undisputed third political force, that speaks for millions across the country. They have over 10,000 members, and many more active supporters. 1.7 million voters are represented by ten Federal MPs, holding balance of power in both houses, advocating for and delivering action to build a better future for all of us.
Bob’s decision to retire is a moment for reflection and celebration. Every day more and more people are getting behind the party’s vision for a 21st century economy that can underpin jobs, health, education and environmental protection.
Greens policies will provide economic prosperity for all, while recognising that protecting our environment is essential to feeding, clothing and providing a good quality of life for people everywhere. See the policies for yourself at www.greens.org.au.
I am looking forward seeing the new Greens Leader Christine Milne and the new Deputy Leader Adam Bandt building on the extraordinary legacy Bob has left us all.
