Media ethics

The current media coverage of our nation’s politics is, quite simply put, appalling. There is no attempt at genuine proper reporting of any single issue.
We cannot forget that in 1975 journalists of Murdoch’s Australian newspaper went on strike, many of whom were then either sacked or resigned, over Murdoch issuing so-called “riding instructions”. The riding instructions were to destroy the government, to initial regime change, just so that Malcolm Fraser could become Prime Minister. Alan Jones was, of course, Fraser’s speech writer.
We now see in the national media the same tone of reporting. There is no attempt at genuine investigative reporting and no attempt at balanced reporting. The idea as expressed by the Daily Telegraph that they are balanced because they spend as much time supporting the Coalition as they do attacking Labor, is a travesty.
Where are the good journalists who do indepth investigations of the issues of the day? Where are the journalists who look at both sides of each and every issue rather than just simply attacking one side to support the other? What happened to the ethics of journalists? Did they get washed away with Murdoch’s pay cheques?
