There are two freebie newspapers in the Tweed area and one on sale. Given the total area of the three Letters Pages and given there are 20,000 adults who may be able to read the newspapers or can’t because of time constraints, the total area for each of the 20,000 adults contributing to public discussion calculates to 0.75 square centimetres per person.
This, as you may imagine, a fairly serious issue, as a newspaper aside from tabloid radio with its Talkback facility, does provide some ‘space’.
