On Thursday and Friday August 25 and 26, 24 NSW Young Farmers, including myself, were given the opportunity to attend a Young Farmers Leadership Program held in Sydney. We were given the chance to meet and speak with members of state parliament and talk about issues facing our generation of farmers and agricultural activists, also to view question time in the upper and lower houses of parliament.
A leadership, development and networking workshop was also held, along with being introduced to an alternative form of agricultural practices such as bio-dynamics, presented by Jeff Stibbard and Hamish McKay, respectively. A very interesting and informative trip to the Sydney Fish Markets also opened our eyes to more exciting opportunities.
I would personally, and behalf of my fellows, would like to thank NSW Farmers and the Department of Ag, Fisheries and Forestry for providing the Next Gen Farmers grant for the workshop. I met so many brilliant, agricultural and futuristically minded young people who will be great contacts in years to come. This is only the start of many amazing friendships and partnerships. The future of agriculture is in fine hands.
