The carbon tax debate has simply got out of hand and it is now a political money grabbing exercise. Plus they are attempting to buy our vote.
The Greens and Labor use the argument that Australians are one of the largest per capita contributors of carbon.
There are mixed reports placing Australia between 12th to 5th highest emitter per capita. The United States is rated between 6th and 1st highest contributor.
Take into account that Australia has approximately the same area of land as the United States. The US has a population close to 300 million, while we are around 22 million.
Therefore, if carbon emission is measured by per capita, the US contributes 13.6 times more carbon than Australia.
That is not double, triple, ten times it is 13.6 times more than Australia. If carbon was measured by the countries’ landsize, Australia is one of the smallest carbon contributors in the world. Now, we are charged the highest carbon tax in the world.
Secondly, of all the carbon produced by humans in the world (which is not all bad), Australia contributes, with general agreement by scientists, a figure of 0.046 per cent. Science reports explain that the level of change that the government is suggesting at this stage will reduce carbon by 0.002 per cent.
What an outstanding difference that will make to the world so-called climate change! You would have to be kidding.
The Greens’ and Labor’s (joint government) argument is that we are doing it for our children. Well, between foreign ownership taking over agriculture and mining, introducing unnecessary carbon taxes, lack of business incentives for growth, our children will not have the life or country we currently enjoy.
