Australians want health care, good education, universal dental care, good roads, disability insurance, in short we want a safe society that provides for our citizens. But these require money and yet the current mantra is ‘No new taxes and while you’re at it, get rid of a few’.
If governments can’t raise taxes for services, where will they get the money? Here are two options that seem to be popular with many leaders: mining licences and royalties including coal seam gas and revenue from gambling. Neither seems good for our health or our future.
Maybe taxes aren’t so bad.
