Over the weekend my family and I attended the Tyalgum Diggers Sports Day for the first time in a couple of years. What a real little gem of an event, probably one of the best kept secrets on the Northern Rivers. There was all manner of good, clean family fun to be enjoyed, keeping the kids and adults entertained all day.
There is of course a purpose for this day and that is to raise funds for local community projects. The Tyalgum Diggers Sports Day also comes with a rich history. Starting way back in 1908, it has had a number of name changes over the years and there have been many beneficiaries of the funds raised, like the Red Cross, Murwillumbah Hospital and our Returned Servicemen and Women.
It was great to see our local politicians in attendance, our Federal Member Justine Elliot and our new Deputy Mayor Michael Armstrong judged the best little Cowboy and Cowgirl competition, they were so cute. Well done to you both for supporting a local community event.
