Listening to Ahmed Fahour of Australia Post talking about the tsunami of on-line shopping parcels moving through post offices, the reverse news for traditional shopping centre retailers is all too obvious.
In a regional city like Armidale it is important for community life as well as the ongoing viability of the town’s heart that business confronts this societal change and adapts appropriately and soon.
We want to keep the distinctive heart of our city busy and thriving as it reflects all our lives.
The situation needs informed and pragmatic ‘think tanks’ with a will to pursue change, involving retailers, landlords, the Armidale Dumaresq Council, and the Chamber of Commerce.
It can be done.
