Until a week ago I had not heard about Coal Seam Gas Mining or fracking, but I then heard it was going to happen here in Tweed, so I decided to find out a bit more. It is really frightening stuff. Having watched Gasland and the ABC Four Corners report, and a lot more online, it is terrifying to think that, where these mines have been allowed, people have been able to set the water coming from their taps on fire! Their water is now basically useless and poisonous to boot.
I can’t believe that the State Government is letting this happen. We all know that the State Government collects millions of dollars in royalties from these mines, but to desecrate our area leaves me speechless. To destroy some of the most beautiful land in the country just so that the State Government can make a few more bucks horrifies me.
We can’t take this one sitting down. We need Geoff Provest to hear our protests so he can represent us about something that matters. Geoff, please save our area and our livelihoods and show us you can stand up for us. Please stop these mines coming to the Tweed.
