Chief Climate adviser Ross Garnaut says the cost of electricity would rise $4 -$5 per week from the Carbon Dioxide Tax. Wouldn’t it be easier to subsidise the electricity cost at the supply level so that costs don’t rise? Or is the carbon tax simply a sneaky tax grab by our debt-ridden Commonwealth Treasury?
The Gillard Government is hanging onto government by a thread; 73 per cent or Australians (in a recent Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry poll)said the carbon tax would have a negative effect on their cost of living.
Only 26 per cent believed the tax would help cut global CO2 emissions and 65 per cent believed any job losses due to the CO2 tax would be unacceptable.
