As a member of the ADC Waste Management Committee 2008-2012, I noted that the Armidale Dumaresq Council have an excellent record in Waste Management. The guide- ‘become part of the solution Waste Services Guide’ distributed by the ADC gives all necessary information on recycling and waste management. Our current landfill site is filling up. Armidale residents are faced with an unfortunate situation. Either move to the controversial Gara Landfill site, a couple of kilometres from the World Heritage Oxley Rivers National Park, or extend the life of the current waste facility by recycling.
The City-to-Soil initiative takes organic waste out of land fill. The Groundswell process converts pizza boxes, food scraps and garden organic waste to a high quality saleable product. All containers, plastics and metal can be recycled in the black bin, as well as clean paper. At the tip residents can sort recycling and rubbish. For the residents who do not yet practice recycling their time has come.
Our planet’s limited resources can no longer be buried in land fill, and we can no longer justify dumping waste, recklessly.
Protect our environment- reduce, re-use, recycle.
