North Armidale women undefeated to clinch Premier League title

2012 premiers North Armidale celebrate after their win on Sunday.

The North Armidale United Women’s Premier League side have capped off a stellar undefeated season, claiming the inaugural Premier League competition in convincing style, defeating East Armidale 4-1 at Phil Wheaton Oval on Sunday.
East Armidale gave it everything they had on Sunday, but knew they were up against a quality outfit. What they lacked in speed, skill and accuracy compared to their opponents, they made up in determination and guts.
Norths have been the standout side all season, with captain Felicity Ward praising the hard work of their coach David Griffiths who, all season, got the girls working at improving their game and fitness.
“It was a big effort by all the girls this year, we all turned up to training every week and put the hard work in, which has paid off for us,” Felicity said.
“All the credit has to go to our coach David Griffiths, who has put in so much time with us and treated us like a proper Premier League team and we really wanted to step up and do everything that he asked of us.
“We have improved so much and once again, that is due to David.”
Chair of Northern Inland Football Steve Griffiths said the competition can only get better next year.
“It has been a great competition this year, certainly the standard of play has been exceptional,” said Steve.
“As a board we would love to see more teams joining the competition next year and more crossover games with rep teams from Tamworth.
“From here the competition can only build, but in our first year it has been fantastic, with the girls and the clubs really committed and getting totally behind it.”
