FOOTSCRAY SES breathed a sigh of relief last week after the City of Maribyrnong emerged largely unscathed from wild weather.
Unit controller Peter Daglish said Footscray SES had received eight call-outs between 3pm and 8pm last Tuesday, with minor building damage and fallen trees the only casualties of gale-force winds.
The unit had to refit roof sheets to about four houses in the municipality. Mr Daglish said loose roof sheets were common among older houses.
“It wasn’t as bad as we thought it was going to be,” he said.
The crew was also called out to attend a Little Bourke St office after two windows blew out from the sixth floor about 3.30pm.
No one was injured, despite the road being littered with shards of glass.
“There were some lucky people, it didn’t hit anyone. You have to put that one down to an act of God. How it didn’t hurt anyone is just one of those things.”
