A WYNDHAM refugee has been recognised by the Prime Minister for her tireless work as a full-time settlement case worker.
Say Htoo Eh Moro, a Karen refugee, from the Wyndham Community and Education Centre (WCEC) was announced as the Caseworker of the Year at the Migration Council of Australia’s Migration and Settlement Awards, held last week.
A spokesperson for the WCEC said Say Htoo was a great example for other members of the community.
“Say Htoo is well-known for her ‘above and beyond’ commitment and approach to all she undertakes,” the spokesperson said.
“We are all very proud of Say Htoo and consider the award wonderful recognition of the outstanding work that she does.”
Prime Minister Julia Gillard, who presented Say Htoo with her award, said she performed a priceless role in Wyndham.
“The Australian Migration and Settlement Awards are about acknowledging the dedication and compassion of community organisations and individuals who work tirelessly to assist new migrants,” Ms Gillard said.
“Say Htoo has played an invaluable role in welcoming migrants and refugees to Wyndham and ensuring they feel settled, included and a part of our community.”
Ms Gillard said the awards showed that Australians were making a real difference to settlement experiences, and that this support was vitally important to assist new migrants to navigate the path in establishing a new life in their adopted country.
