JUDGING has started in a bid to find the best businesses in the West in the lead-up to next month’s 2007 Powercor Business Excellence Awards.
The 25 competition judges began the difficult task last week of choosing one business that best represented each of the annual awards’ 12 categories.
Event organiser Greater Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GWCCI) has chosen the judges for their broad range of expertise and skills in business and industry in the West.
GWCCI executive officer Janice Simpson said to be acknowledged with a 2007 Powercor Business Excellence Award was a prestigious endorsement of business excellence.
“The awards honour business leaders in the West through the acknowledgment of innovative business practise and overall business success,” she said.
More than 65 entries have been received from businesses within in the cities of Brimbank, Hobsons Bay, Maribyrnong, Melton and Wyndham for this year’s awards.
Businesses will compete in the following categories – start-up, franchise, retail, small home office/micro business, restaurant/cafe, building/construction, small business, medium business, not-for-profit, tourism, agri and export business in the West.
All entrants also have the chance of winning the Best Businessperson of the Year or the Young Achiever of the Year awards.
Ms Simpson said the awards were an opportunity to gain a competitive advantage.
“No matter what type or size the business or organisation, this is a golden chance to gain the recognition excellence deserves,” she said.
