THE Metropolitan Transport Forum (MTF) has urged residents to use their mobile phones to provide SMS feedback on the new train timetable.
The forum’s chairwoman, Janet Rice, said the MTF and the councils it represented were keen to give the public a chance to have a say on public transport issues.
‘We want the public to use 0428 pt4me2 to send the government their comments about the new timetable,’ she said.
Cr Rice said the MTF wanted to know if the timetable had reduced overcrowding or made public transport more attractive.
She said the text message service gave people stuck in traffic or packed into crowded trains a way to voice their concern about transport issues.
“Use SMS to say if the new train timetable is working for you. We’ll collate your comments and present them to the Public Transport Minister, Lynne Kosky,” she said.
Cr Rice said Melbourne was growing fast and the public transport system needed to grow too.
“The State Government has set aside $10 billion for transport improvements but many of the major changes are not planned until after 2016. pt4me2 is a way for the public to say that public transport improvements should be delivered sooner rather than later,” she said.
Residents can SMS 0428 pt4me2 (0428 784 632) with their comments on the new timetable until 31 October.
