A ONE-STOP information shop in Nicholson St will foster economic regeneration in central Footscray over the next three years.
The resource will provide information to investors, potential developers and the community about the $52.1 million Footscray renewal project.
The opening of the shop last month was the latest step in the joint project of the State Government and Maribyrnong City Council.
Maribyrnong councillor Janet Rice said the opening of the one-stop planning shop was a significant step forward for Footscray.
“Everyone is welcome to make use of the shop to find out how the centre of Footscray is being shaped to take its place as a modern, safe and vibrant area,” she said.
Planning Minister Justin Madden said the shop would allow State Government and council planning staff to operate in one location.
“This shop makes expert planning and design advice more accessible for the community, developers and investors as we move forward with the rejuvenation of central Footscray,” he said.
Mr Madden said he was committed to consulting and engaging the community on the major developments in Footscray.
“A planning scheme amendment will be available for public feedback in mid-2008,” he said.
The main projects include a new footbridge over the railway line, a forecourt leading from the railway station to central Footscray, an upgrade of the mall and housing developments close to the railway station.
