A PASSION to deliver the best for the West will make LeadWest’s new boss Tony Mayer’s job a breeze.
The former Greater Geelong City Council economic development manager has taken up the role as LeadWest’s inaugural CEO.
Mr Mayer said it was the recognition of the need to take a regional approach on working with the big, key strategic issues in the West with five local councils — Maribyrnong, Brimbank, Melton, Wyndham and Moonee Valley along with other key organisations and businesses — that underpinned the formation of LeadWest.
“Quite simply, the role of LeadWest is to build on the existing social, economic and environmental capacity of the western region and plan to create a sustainable future for the wellbeing of the richly diverse communities that call the West home,” he said.
“The interesting thing about this role for me is that I’m really passionate about doing whatever I can to deliver the ‘best for the West’ and LeadWest is, I believe, a perfect platform to deliver that.
“Having grown up in Kingsville (my family still lives here) and going to school in Footscray, I am very excited to come back and help steer the work of this important organisation.”
Mr Mayer has extensive experience in business development honed on a global stage.
He has worked in a broad cross section of culturally diverse parts of the world. He is the former head of Austrade’s operations for Victoria and Tasmania.
He previously had senior trade commissioner roles in the Middle East, North America, Africa and Europe.
Before Austrade, Mr Mayer had a career in banking in Australia and abroad.
