VOLUNTEERS will be trained as part of a $10,000 project to lead walking groups in the City of Maribyrnong and neighbouring municipalities.
The project in Maribyrnong will be aimed at migrant communities and is part of a plan to boost health and well being in the municipality.
Team leaders will be trained about the benefits of walking, the role of the leader, local information, assessing safe walking routes and first aid training.
Hobson’s Bay and Wyndham City councils will also take part in the State Government Community Walking Grants program.
The project will be run for 12 months and the funding will be shared by the three councils.
