The request is part of the council’s response to the government’s Review of electronic gaming machine, Club Keno and Wagering Licences and Funding arrangements for the racing industry Post 2012.
Increased access to data is expected to help the council further understand gambling behaviour.
The council also wants: “more research about EGM (electronic gaming machines) and venue features and their impact on problem gambling.”
“We’d also like to see a commitment from the State Government to make sure the gambling money lost from a community, is then returned in fair proportion through the Community Support Fund.”
Mayor Janet Rice said the City of Maribyrnong continues to have the highest pokies machine losses per an adult in the State, outside the Melbourne CBD casino.
“What’s worrying is that over the past four years, ninety-nine EGMs have been moved out of our region but our gambling losses have stayed constant,” she said.
“All that’s happened is that gamblers are using the remaining machines more intensively.”
