A PROPOSAL for a completely new pool in the southern region of the municipality was put forward at a community consultation meeting last Tuesday.
Councillor Michael Clarke raised the idea at the Maribyrnong City Council’s public consultation meeting.
He said a pool in the southern region would be more accessible to residents in the Footscray, Kingsville, Seddon and Yarraville areas than the Maribyrnong Aquatic Centre.
Debate about whether the municipality could support two pools resulted from a presentation made by a member of the Save Footscray Pool group at the forum.
The presentation produced 40 minutes of heated debate among councilors and degenerated into a shouting match.
Councillors rehashed arguments for and against saving the Footscray Swim Centre.
