Speedsters rev up

By Christine de Kock
RACING car enthusiasts are invited to take part in a family fun day to raise money for the Royal Children’s Hospital on 9 April.
The Victorian Classic and Vintage Speedway Club has also organised the fundraising day as a reunion for all the competitors who raced on Tracey’s Speedway in Maribyrnong.
Event organiser Ken Izzard, 82, said Tracey’s Speedway closed back in 1964 and though today there is little or no sign of the old racing track – which is now a cricket ground – the original Tracey’s grandstands are still in place.
Competitors will be proudly showing off their vintage cars and bikes from the 1960s.
There will also be a monster raffle, with all proceeds from the event going to Royal Children’s Hospital appeal.
Tracey’s Speedway Reunion will be held at Maribyrnong Rd, Maribyrnong, from 11am to 3pm. Inquiries: 9370 5942.
