Council says it’s time

MARIBYRNONG City Council wants artists to think outside the square and brighten up the Nicholson Street Mall after dark.
The council is calling for an “illuminating creation”, a concept that could include lighting, projections, light boxes and sound or shop-front installations.
Cr Michael Clarke, who is on the council’s public art advisory panel, said the council had no other public art projects that were especially designed to be enjoyed after dark.
“We are hoping local artists will really embrace this idea to create a welcoming vibe in one of Footscray’s most well-known landmarks,” he said.
Expressions of interest have been called and submissions will be whittled down to a short-list of five. Those on the short-list will be asked to develop their idea to a concept stage and one project will then be selected.
More information is available on the council’s website at www.maribyrnong.vic.gov.au or by calling the council’s arts and cultural services coordinator, Gill Savage, on 9688 0385.
