THE Greens will attempt to force the State Government to show its hand over an upgrade to Footscray railway station.
Maribyrnong City Council has met Premier Steve Bracks to discuss the upgrade of the station and council officers have worked with the relevant State Government departments to develop plans and costings for the redevelopment of the station.
Retiring State Member for Footscray Bruce Mildenhall said that there was “still a bit of go” in relation to plans for the upgrade.
“There is some work going on as to whether it could be included in a formal announcement but we are hoping to say something before the election,” he said.
Greg Ferrington, the Greens candidate for the seat of Footscray, and Colleen Hartland candidate for the Upper House region of Western Metropolitan are urging residents to join them in building their own pedestrian bridge out of Lego at Footscray Station on 17 November.
An upgrade to the pedestrian bridge is a priority for Maribyrnong City Council.
Mr Ferrington said: “Bracks has the upgrade report; it’s costed, designed and detailed.”
“All he has to do is announce the funding.
“What’s his problem? Footscray not good enough for him?”
The Greens will begin construction of the the Lego pedestrian bridge at 8am at platform 1, Irving St, Footscray.
Interested participants are asked to bring their own Lego.
