A SPRING festival on the Alex Beaton Reserve in Yarraville will help celebrate Carer’s Week, Children’s Week, and Community Safety Month on 22 October.
Maribyrnong City Council will host the event which will feature free entertainment for families and adults of all abilities.
Picnickers are also invited to chat with emergency service representatives, who will be on hand with a fire engine, police car and an ambulance.
Sheoak Ward councillor Janis Rossiter said VicHealth would also support the event.
“There are many community organisations involved in working with children, carers and community safety issues, and we are encouraging people who work and volunteer in these sectors to come along to celebrate their achievements,” she said.
“Children’s week is an annual world-wide event celebrating the rights of children, and recognises their skills and abilities.
“Carer’s Week is a national awareness week, promoting the valuable role unpaid carers play in our community, while Community Safety Month is a state-wide initiative aimed at reducing crime, violence and injury, and to change people’s perception of safety.”
The picnic will run from noon until 4pm on the reserve in Fehon St, Yarraville.
