CAMPAIGN literature being circulated in the River Ward by ALP endorsed candidate Sarah D’Astoli has come under fire.
Fellow Independent candidate Cameron McDonald said he was concerned that Ms D’Astoli had not included the ALP logo or mentioned that she was running as an ALP endorsed candidate on one of her fliers.
“Why wouldn’t you be up front and tell people if you were with the ALP,” he said.
“Is she embarrassed about it?”
Mr McDonald said he had not approached Ms D’Astoli directly about his complaint.
“I wouldn’t have influence over the ALP and the way they do things,” he said.
The flier in question documents the results of a survey Ms D’Astoli had conducted earlier in the year and is entitled “What did you say?”
Ms D’Astoli said that not including the ALP logo was an “oversight” as the purpose of the leaflet was mainly to forward the results of her survey to those who had responded.
“I would certainly not keep it a secret that I’m in the Labor Party,” she said.
“On the ballot paper I will be clearly identified as an ALP candidate.
“That leaflet was directed particularly at the respondents and was not about me.
“ I was thanking people for the feed back they had given.”
Ms D’Astoli said campaign fliers were required to include the name of the person who authorised the material but she was not being misleading by not including the ALP logo.
