MONEY may not grow on trees, but a free breakfast expo next month will help businesses “grow” savings by becoming more environmentally sustainable.
Maribyrnong City Council has been chosen as one of 20 exhibitors to feature information on environmental initiatives at the Environmental Sustainability Breakfast and Expo 2007 in Sunshine.
The expo theme, Grow Me the Money, is pitched at companies in the West who want to improve and grow their business while saving on operational costs.
Councillor Joseph Cutri said the half-day breakfast and expo was designed for small business operators and would feature exhibitors, workshops and keynote speakers on environmental issues affecting businesses.
“In our current time of drought, climate change and increasing public awareness of environmental issues, business can make a real difference by making simple changes in the workplace,” he said.
Cr Cutri said the council’s exhibit would feature information on the Stony Creek Neighbourhood Environment Improvement Plan, stormwater, water energy and waste.
The council’s role in the expo was part of its greater overall effort to improve water quality.
Cr Cutri said the expo was open to anyone with an interest in sustainability.
“If you have an established business, a brand new business, maybe you’re looking for new clients, or operate a not for profit or government business, even if you are a local resident interested in how you can reduce your environmental impact and waste, come along and see what’s happening,” he said.
The event will be hosted by the Greater Western Chamber of Commerce and Industry and sponsored by Victorian Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VECCI), the Victorian Government and EPA Victoria.
