Doorknock to survey safety

By Christine de Kock
FOOTSCRAY Police will conduct a doortodoor survey of residents’ safety concerns this month.
It is part of a safety initiative, Reassurance Policing, to be piloted in Braybrook and Maidstone.
The aims of the project will be discussed at a community forum at the Maidstone Community Centre today (Tuesday).
Strategies to address concerns that arise from the survey and the forum are expected to be developed by police.
The Reassurance Policing project is a joint initiative between Victoria Police, Neighbourhood Renewal, Maribyrnong City Council and the Braybrook and Maidstone Neighbourhood Association and is funded jointly by the Victorian Law Enforcement Drug Fund and the Department of Human Services.
Chairperson of the Neighbourhood Association Kelly Linnell encouraged as many residents as possible to attend the forum and to participate in the survey, because it is voluntary.
She said residents had previously raised concerns about speeding and graffiti in the area but did not want to comment as to what would be raised at the forum.
“People were concerned about speeding in the little streets in Braybrook but that’s been taken care of,” she said.
Ms Linnell said that they looked forward to working with police on the initiative and expected strong outcomes.
A working group has also been formed to assist police with the project.
Group members include local residents, police officers and representatives from Maribyrnong City Council.
The group will meet on the fourth Tuesday of every month from 27 September at the Braybrook Community Centre.
