DEAN Kaniba’s job is a godsend for the parents of teenagers.
The 35-year-old driving instructor has spent the past year helping young learner drivers and adult migrants across the City of Maribyrnong get their licence through the Origin Driving School.
It’s a career choice the Truganina man stumbled into.
Mr Kaniba was a self-employed taxi driver for over four years and had two people working for him before taking the passenger set professionally.
“I wanted to make sure how good they were at driving the taxi, so I’d go out and make some comments about how they could do better,” he said.
Now, Mr Kaniba comments on people’s driving for a living.
He said some of his clients picked up driving very quickly, while others needed more lessons to get the knack of it.
“No two drivers are the same,” he said.
Mr Kaniba also sits in on his client’s driving tests, and said most pass their licence first time around, but some have to try again.
Luckily, he hasn’t been in a car accident with a client.
And he has some handy advice for parents whose teens have just got their Ls.
“The very first time, it’s not advisable for the parents to take them out. It’s best to let them take some lessons and then take over once they learn some control,” he said.
