YARRAVILLE teen Lucy Kervin-McDermott loves the outdoors.
So much so that the 18-year-old recently trekked 120 kilometres across the Alpine National Park to raise money for Wollongarra, an outdoor education camp that encourages young people to be self-sustainable and care for the environment.
The trek took 11 days and saw Ms Kervin-McDermott conquer Mount Hotham.
“I was lucky enough to get chosen,” the 18-year-old said.
“It was pretty challenging. There was some really, really, really steep mountains, but I loved doing it.”
Ms Kervin-McDermott raised more than $500 as part of the walk, which is held annually to help young people participate in Wollangarra events.
She has been a member of Wollangarra for the past two years, joining after hearing about her friend’s adventures.
Ms Kervin-McDermott juggles Wollangarra while studying biology at La Trobe University.
“I love it so much, I’ll keep being a part of Wollongarra forever,” she said.
