Rental prices stall

MARIBYRNONG rental prices have flatlined in the past year, despite increases in neighbouring suburbs.
Figures from RP Data show rental prices for houses and units across the municipality did not move over the 12 months to March 2011.
Meanwhile, Brimbank, Hobsons Bay and Wyndham rental prices all increased between 3.3 and 7.7 per cent. RP Data senior research analyst Cameron Kusher said Maribyrnong’s figures had bucked the rental growth trend in the West.
“The rental growth in most of these regions has actually been quite strong over the year, especially when you consider growth in Melbourne rents has been quite flat over the year,” he said. “Clearly most of these regions are experiencing quite strong demand for rental properties.
