THE Regional Rail Link Authority has shortlisted tenders to deliver the Southern Cross Station to Footscray stage of the Regional Rail Link.
Integrate Rail and Leighton Contractors, Downer EDI, SMEC & Mott MacDonald are in the ring to deliver the project – which includes realigning and upgrading the existing track and building two lines.
Federal Infrastructure and Transport Minister Anthony Albanese said the short-listing for the second major package of works represents another major milestone in the RRL project.
“Each of these two bidders will now be invited to develop and submit fully costed proposals, with the final contract expected to be awarded next year,” Mr Albanese said.
Mr Mulder said the extensive package of work to be delivered by the successful consortium will transform the movement of regional trains through Melbourne’s inner West.
“Once fully completed, the Regional Rail Link will become metropolitan Melbourne’s first major new rail line in 80 years, providing capacity for up to 9000 additional passengers during peak hour,” he said.
