A KINGS Park-based band, made up four talented performers, are giving other young people across Melbourne the chance to shine.
The Err Won music group, made up of Carlo, Richard, Raquel and Angelo – who have the stage names Huskee, Rich, RAQ Wifey and Lil G – have founded the ‘Express Yourself’ contest for hip-hop and pop singers and dancers aged from six to 21 years old.
Err Won, who were previously known as Davelles, can all sing, rap, dance and write songs.
Recently, their music video for the song ‘Let’s Ride’ received 5000 hits within the first five days they posted it on YouTube.
Their previous clip ‘Would You Be My World’ recorded 22,000 views in two months.
In addition to showcasing their own talents, Richard said they were keen to give other young people the chance to shine.
“We are currently running an ‘Express Yourself’ competition to give young people the chance to express themselves and we are searching for the top 10 finalists around the North, South, East and Western region of Melbourne,” Carlo said.
“At the grand final we are planning to donate the money raised to the Make-A-Wish Foundation for cancer patients. We hope people are willing to support this good cause,” Angelo said.
The auditions for young people from the West will be held in Laverton at the Philippine Community House on 1 October.
Raquel said she has been heartened to see the support parents give their children throughout the competition process, and there were many brilliant young performers in Melbourne.
“The ones we’ve seen so far are so talented,” she said.
The winner of the Express Yourself competition will receive a trophy and a $1000 cheque.
Head along to the Philippine Community House, corner Thomas St and Armstrong St,
Laverton on 1 October at 2pm to audition. Anyone under the age of 18 must bring a guardian to the contest to sign a consent form.
