KATHRYN Wilkins’ art might be in the clouds, but her feet are planted firmly on the ground.
The Yarraville artist has an affinity with capturing the changing nature of the sky, and is showing off one of her oil paintings on the landscape at an exhibition at Arthouse Ink Gallery.
“I think it’s the way that it’s always there, but it’s always changing; it’s never the same,” Ms Wilkins said.
“It just makes me feel good.
“It helps put things in perspective a bit, I think sometimes we get too caught up in our own little world and when you look up at the sky you realise that it’s not just you – there’s a lot more out there than even we know about.”
Imagine This is a collaborative exhibition from 13 artists across the Western Region Artist Network.
Ms Wilkins, 44, has always drawn and taken photos as a hobby, but became an exhibiting artist a few years ago after completing her diploma at Victoria University and winning the Fiona Myer award at the graduate exhibition.
She now tries to exhibit her work as often as possible, working part-time to help pay the bills.
Ms Wilkins joined the Western Region Artist Network while she was at university, saying it could be isolating working as an artist from home.
The Imagine This exhibition is on display until 30 October.
