Big hits set for West in T20 Cup

FANS of the Victorian Turf Cricket Association can get ready for some big hits, classic catches and stump destroying bowling at the inaugural Hunter French T20 Cup.
The event is hosted by Altona North Cricket Club and will also feature Laverton, West Newport and Wyndham Vale Cricket Clubs.
Altona North President Grey Frydas said the committee jumped at the idea to hold the T20 tournament after it was proposed by senior players.
“They came up with the concept and they brought it to me. We took it to the committee and basically it
was approved straight away,” Frydas said. “It was a great idea and we contacted the other clubs to see what the interest was. They got on board quickly.”
The four teams will be locked in an elimination 20 over a side cricket tournament with teams competing for a $500 Knights Sports voucher and a $550 Slazenger cricket bat.
“The idea is to have it at our club because we have two grounds there and then have the other clubs benefit from the income of the event.
“It will run like the ashes, we are planning to hold it every year but everyone gets a go at hosting every four years,” Frydas said.
Fans of the four clubs will also get the chance to enjoy the fun day with a DJ playing great summer tunes as well as canteen and bar sales on offer.
There will also be a $1000 draw, which competing players and fans will have the chance to enter and win.
“We are hoping to get each club’s supporters to come down and watch and participate in the draw as well, which would be great to see,” Frydas said.
“It will start at 11 and those three games should be completed by six that night.
“We will then hold the $1000 draw between six and nine during the night. Everyone is welcome to attend and it should be a great day.”
