A WERRIBEE woman with a love for all things photography is hoping to continue her father’s legacy and create her own one in the process.
Belinda Xerri first picked up a camera seven years ago when her father Joseph passed away as a way to help her cope.
“I used it as an emotional release and then when I starting snapping photos that turned out okay I thought it would be something that I could actually do,” Ms Xerri said.
“At the time I didn’t want to talk to people about how I was feeling so taking photos was a way for me to express myself.”
Belinda’s father was a designer who enjoyed taking photographs of his garden, but he would never let his daughter play with his camera.
So when he passed away Belinda picked up his camera and headed to the State Rose Garden in Werribee to start capturing her father’s favourite subject.
“He liked capturing things in photos so that he would always remember them,” she said.
“I think he would be proud of me and of how far I’ve taken my own photography.”
At just 21-years-old Belinda has been running her own photography business for around five years and while she loves taking shots in Werribee South she said she would like her skills to take her around the world.
“I would love to be just doing this full time and to have a massive studio where everyone knows my name and they come in to get their family photos done,” she said.
“It would be great if I could travel the world with it.”
