MARIBYRNONG City Council will host a reconciliation event at the Living Museum of the West next week.
The event will include a Welcome to Country by a Wurundjeri Elder, a tour of the Wurundjeri Garden in Pipemakers Park, a light dinner and a screening of Freedom for our Lifetime, an episode from the SBS television series the First Australians, which looks at the threat of extinction faced by the Wurundjeri people and their move to Coranderrk.
Mayor Sarah Carter said the event was an opportunity to learn about the culture, land and history of the Wurundjeri people.
The council’s Indigenous Policy and Action Plan 2009-2013 includes actions to support reconciliation and provide local opportunities for connections between Indigenous and non Indigenous community members.
The event will be held on 15 February between 6.30pm to 8.30pm.
