YARRAVILLE writer Llewellyn Prain has been awarded the inaugural short story prize in the Ethel Webb Bundell Literary Awards.
The prize, awarded by the Society of Women Writers of Western Australia, was announced at a ceremony in Perth late last month.
Ms Prain won the award for her story ‘Pedro Loves Lionel’, which follows a young girl and was based on a day out at the Don Bosco Youth Centre in Brunswick.
“I had been to Don Bosco a couple of times and was struck by the spirit of the place. I was keen to try to capture that in a story,” Ms Prain said.
“Awards like this are fantastic recognition for writers and this win has really encouraged me to keep writing.”
Ms Prain has been running her own business, PrainWriting, for almost four years, writing speeches, reports and other documents for a range of government and business clients.
Ms Prain also acts in a voluntary capacity as the Vice President of the Western Region Health Centre.
