FIRE authorities are again criticising the location of fire hydrants following a blaze in Sunshine North last week.
The fire in Augusta Cres started just before midnight on Friday, in a house belonging to people holidaying overseas.
Flames had engulfed the centre, rear, and roof of the house by the time fire crews arrived, and officers are treating the fire as suspicious.
Metropolitan Fire Brigade senior station officer Ian Munro said the location of hydrants remained a concern.
“When eventually found, after relaying water from the next nearest hydrant 180 metres away, the hydrant was covered in grass and dirt, and was almost under a vehicle parked on the nature strip,” Mr Munro said.
The MFB is asking residents to “adopt a hydrant” by keeping them clearly visible and accessible in case of fire.
