STATE Emergency Service (SES) crews were kept busy earlier this month, as strong winds tore across Melbourne’s Western suburbs, bringing down trees and causing havoc across areas in and around Brimbank.
Brad Dalgleish, SES unit controller for Keilor, told Star the SES received around half a dozen calls for help between 3.30pm and about 10pm on Saturday 6 January, all as a result of fallen trees.
The SES took around an hour and a half disposing of a large tree that had come down in Magnolia Ave, Kings Park.
Mr Dalgleish warned motorists to take precautions on the road during thunderstorms and strong winds, advising motorists to drive with their headlights on if visibility was poor, reduce their speed, not to drive through flood water in flash flooding conditions, and to be aware of debris on the road.
Across the state, SES volunteers attended more than 150 calls for assistance.
