KEILOR East student Lara Sibakoska will be one of the hundreds of volunteers helping to make a difference to sick children across Australia this week when she volunteers at this year’s annual Starlight Day, on Friday, 4 May.
It will be the fifth time the 19-year-old has given up her time to help raise money for the Starlight Foundation’s annual fundraising day.
“It’s just important that these kids have more in their life than just sitting in hospital, and have fun in their lives,” Ms Sibakoska said last week.
The Starlight Foundation was set up in 1988 to provide some joy to seriously ill and hospitalised children across Australia.
“Just seeing on television what they do for little kids has made me want to volunteer,” she said.
Joining Ms Sibakoska on Friday 4 May will be her 12-year-old brother, James, who volunteered for the first time last year, and this year will be helping sell Starlight merchandise at Airport West shopping centre.
“Just to know that you’ve made a difference to someone makes you feel good,” Ms Sibakoska said.
This year the Starlight Foundation hopes to raise more than $2.2 million dollars.
Residents are encouraged to donate at shopping centres around Melbourne on the day.
