New grass is greener

THE fairways at Keilor Golf Course are looking healthier after the first stage of a redevelopment of the front nine.
A project to rejuvenate the fairways at the 18-hole public course began last November, after they were feeling the pinch of the dry weather.
“The conquest couch grass has established remarkably well,” Keilor Golf Course maintenance coordinator Matt Roche said.
“We have 85 per cent cover giving golfers a far superior surface to play off. The fairways will get better year by year.”
The new couch grass planted on holes one to nine requires less watering.
The second stage of the replanting, which will cover the remaining holes, will start in October.
