Teens make the

BRIMBANK students joined 60 young executives of the future in a special education challenge during Australian Business Week.
Year 12 students Heidi McKinnon, of Albion, and Joshua Ross, of Caroline Springs, took part in a role-playing week and “filled the shoes” of a chief executive in a multi-million dollar company.
They each received $2000 from Deakin University’s Faculty of Business and Law to take part in the study, which attracted 60 students from across Victoria.
The business study was held from 13 March to 18 March at the university’s Geelong campus.
Students worked in groups of 10 to get a taste of the day-to-day operations of an executive, and tackled competition, impossible deadlines, marketing opportunities and decision making.
The Year 12 students took part in a range of other assignments through a computer-simulation of a two-year marketing cycle.
They also played roles in a mock trial, developed and marketed a new product, and created a trade display.
The students produced a video advertisement, wrote a company report and presented it in an oral presentation to a panel of judges.
A written teacher assessment and academic merit were the yardsticks by which students were chosen.
The challenge was designed to promote teamwork in students hoping to begin a career in business.
