Teams aplenty in Interleague challenge

THE Western Region Football League’s (WRFL) junior Interleague program kicks off next week with an unprecedented level of involvement.
The WRFL will field sides from under 12 through to under 18 against the Essendon and District, Riddell and District, Yarra Juniors, Waverley Juniors and Northern – formerly the Diamond Valley – football leagues.
WRFL football operations officer Andrew George said the representative program was a good chance for the cream of youngsters in the competition to put their names in front of Western Jets TAC Cup selectors.
“The Jets work very closely with us in terms of who they should be having a look at and this gives the kids an opportunity to impress,” George said.
“We are playing matches against the Waverley and Yarra junior competitions, which we have never done before.
“We also have two under 15 teams so the involvement is really high.
“It’s an important part of the development of juniors in our league.”
