KOORINGAL Golf Club in Altona is buzzing with the news that one of its most promising juniors, Grace Thiry, has been accepted in the United States college system, obtaining a full golf scholarship at Kansas University starting next August.
At 17 years of age, Thiry is playing off a three handicap and has a terrific chance to do well and eventually gain a place on the lucrative ALPG Tour in the US.
She will join former Kooringal junior David McKendrick, who is already in the US at university, as two of the club’s most prominent overseas ambassadors.
Many Australians, including Steve Elkington, have graduated from the college system and it is a big honour for anyone who gains entry into it.

ALTHOUGH it is yet to be confirmed, in an attempt to let the local community see what Werribee Park Golf Club has to offer I believe on a Sunday in mid-September the course will be open to residents and non -golf club members for a come-and-try day where the half green fees will be charged.
The idea behind the venture is to attract membership to the club from many of the new residents of Wyndham and Point Cook.

KOORINGAL general manager Nick Thornton and course superintendent Michael Grant will journey to the Gold Coast next month to take part in the Australian finals of the prestigious John Deere World Championship at the Lakelands Golf Club.
The duo has a more than better chance of going to Georgia in the US to compete against the rest of the world in the annual championships, as both men competent golfers with Thornton a former PGA trainee and Grant one of Kooringal’s top low markers and pennant players.
