THE run-down Deer Park Reserve is set for a $2.5 million redevelopment with the release of an extensive masterplan.
The plan, adopted by Brimbank City Council last month, includes a redeveloped sport pavilion, clubrooms and a sculpture trail linking the reserve to the nearby Hunt Club.
Council has already allocated $1.1 million for the project.
More funding will be sought from the State Government.
The masterplan identified numerous problems with the reserve.
Sporting and public infrastructure at the park– including turf, lighting, training facilities and car parking – in a poor condition.
Toilet facilities at the reserve are tired, unattractive and misused, the report said.
The masterplan also criticised the number of advertising hoardings at the reserve.
Brimank mayor Natalie Suleyman said the plan would breathe new life into the park.
“Deer Park Reserve has a long history and there is no doubt that the sporting and public infrastructure is in poor condition and needs to be upgraded,” she said.
“The improvements recommended in the masterplan are great news for the local football and cricket clubs and also for nearby residents and visitors who will be able to enjoy improved walking paths, seating, play facilities and landscaping,” Cr Suleyman said.
The redevelopment plan was in response to a petition signed by 75 members of the Deer Park Football and Cricket Clubs requesting improvements to existing facilities.
