A NOT-FOR-PROFIT group in Melbourne’s West has been commended for its efforts to help cut back on water usage by selling plants that require only minimal watering to stay alive.
Mambourin Enterprises, which sells drought-friendly plants to government, private firms and residents from its Sunshine nursery, was a finalist in the 2006-2007 Savewater! Awards.
The plants form part of a 10-year program that the nursery started in 2005, with each plant labelled from one to five water drips, depending on how much is required, and plants need watering only in extreme conditions.
