PLANS for Brimbank’s parks will go on show at community information sessions this week.
Residents are being urged to read through the council’s draft open space and playground policy – which involves spending about $34 million during the next eight years – before the meetings.
The meetings will be held on 30 January at the Harvester meeting rooms, 301 Hampshire Rd, Sunshine; on 31 January at the Grantham Green Community Centre, Grantham Parade, St Albans East; and on 5 February at the Sydenham Library, Watergardens Town Centre, Taylors Lakes.
All start at 7pm and residents can register their interest by calling 9249 4702.
The draft policy gan be read online at www.brimbank.vic.gov.au.
The plan outlines the council’s proposal to create three types of parks in Brimbank – district, suburban and neighbourhood.
Twenty-six new playgrounds are planned on council-owned land as part of the project, with the majority of work to be done on existing parks.
There will be five district parks – at Lagoon Reserve in Keilor, Buckingham Reserve in Sunshine West, the Lakes Reserve in Taylors Lakes, Isabella William Reserve in Albanvale and Errington Reserve in St Albans.
These would be within a 15-minute drive for surrounding residents.
The 26 suburban parks that are proposed would be within a 20-minute walk for most residents in the surrounding areas, while neighbourhood parks would be within a five-to-10-minute walk.
The council’s urban design manager, Nick Mann, said community input into the policy was important. “The council is pleased that more than 400 residents have visited the website and that submissions have been received,” he said.
“We look forward to further input and hope to see as many residents as possible make submissions and attend the workshops.”
