DEER Park Library may be opened on Wednesdays next financial year after Brimbank City Council agreed to consider funding for the extra hours in its next budget.
The council received a petition with 178 signatures asking the library be opened on Wednesdays. The request received support from outside the municipality.
Business and community relations general manager Steve Crawcour said 26 residents from Footscray and Bacchus Marsh were listed on the petition. Deer Park Library opened in July 1993 and operates 40 hours a week but has traditionally been closed on Wednesdays.
The funding allocation will be considered for the 2008-09 council budget only after community consultation has been conducted. Residents will be able to tell the council which of two options they would prefer during the consultation period.
